On January 8, 1986, 25 sport-fishing boats with homeports from Texas to South Carolina roared into Ocean Reef Club for a weekend of serious sailfishing and nightly celebrations. These anglers unwittingly started what has become one of Ocean Reef Club’s proudest traditions, Reef Cup. Since that time, Reef Cup has seen it all – from heartbreaking fishless days to record-breaking achievements.
Today, the tradition is alive and well, with a fleet of 60 boats vying for a place in Reef Cup history each year.
On January 24th, 2012, the 27th Annual Reef Cup will once again bring four days of fiercely fought competition, along with unrivaled Ocean Reef Club camaraderie, back to the waters surrounding Ocean Reef.
This is also a tournament qualifier for the ORC Sailfish Champions of the year and a chance to fish in the IGFA World Sailfish Championship in Mexico.
